About the game

Callbreak, also written Call Break and known as Lakdi or call bridge in some places, is the four-player trick-taking card game that millions play across India and Nepal. If you know Spades or Hearts it will feel familiar, but there are no partners: each of the four players at the table plays for themselves. A standard 52-card deck is dealt so everyone gets 13 cards, and spades are always trump. Before any card is played, every player makes a call, the number of tricks they expect to win in that round. Make your call and you score that many points, plus 0.1 for every extra trick. Fall short and you lose the value of your call. After five rounds the player with the highest total wins the match. This Callbreak online game uses the standard rules. You must follow the suit that was led, and if you can beat the highest card of that suit on the table you must play higher. If you are void in the led suit you must play a spade that wins the trick when you have one; if your spades cannot beat the trump already played, you may play any card. Cards you cannot play are dimmed, and tapping an illegal card tells you exactly why. On the call screen you get a suggested call based on the strength of your hand, which makes this spades card game easy to learn. In the career mode you face three bots; every match you win takes you up a level and the next match starts automatically against smarter opponents. Higher-level bots count the cards that have been played, track which opponent has run out of which suit and estimate their calls carefully. Player badges show calls and tricks won, and the score table lists every round. There is no betting, no chips and no money involved. Callbreak plays comfortably in portrait on a phone and in landscape on a computer, and you can also play at an online four-player table with friends or random opponents, with bots filling any empty seats.

How to play

  1. Press PLAY: you and three bots sit at the table and everyone is dealt 13 cards. Spades are always trump.
  2. On your turn pick how many tricks you will win (1-13) and press CALL; the suggested call glows green.
  3. When it is your turn to play, tap one of the raised cards or drag it up. Follow suit and beat the table if you can; if you are void, play a winning spade.
  4. The highest spade takes the trick, otherwise the highest card of the led suit. Make your call for +call and +0.1 per extra trick; miss it and you get −call.
  5. Finish five rounds with the highest total to win the match; the next match starts on its own against smarter bots.

FAQ

How is Callbreak scored?

If you win at least as many tricks as you called, you score your call plus 0.1 for each extra trick: call 3 and win 4 for +3.1. If you win fewer, you lose your call: call 4 and win 2 for −4. The highest total after five rounds wins.

What must I play if I cannot follow suit?

If you have no card of the led suit and you hold a spade that beats every trump on the table, you must play it. If you have no spades, or your spades cannot beat the trump already played, you may play any card. When following suit you must also beat the highest card of that suit if you can, unless the trick has already been trumped.

Are Callbreak, Call Break and Lakdi the same game?

Yes. The same game is called Callbreak, Call Break, Lakdi or sometimes call bridge across India and Nepal. Small house rules vary; this version uses the standard rules with calls, spades as trump and the follow-suit and play-higher obligations.
