About the game
Cannon vs Serpent: Stone Chain is a fast shooting game set on a grassy field in front of blue mountains and a pine forest. You drag the wheeled cannon at the bottom of the screen left and right with your finger; the cannon fires bullets upward nonstop, and you only choose where to aim. A giant mechanical stone serpent winds its way down from the top: a huge head made of riveted basalt plates with glowing amber eyes leads the way, followed by octagonal stone blocks joined by metal links. Every block shows its health number; each hit makes the number shrink, and when it reaches zero the block bursts into sparks and stone dust, the chain gets shorter and the serpent slows down. Blue blocks boost your fire rate, yellow blocks add a barrel and red blocks make your bullets stronger, while every broken block drops gold that flies into the counter in the top-left corner. Steel blocks deflect most bullets and purple crystal blocks split in two when they break. The serpent's path changes every level: S-curves, square turns, zigzags, waves and spirals that unwind from a stone portal in the middle. Every fifth level a giant boss serpent arrives and hurls boulders at your cannon. You must smash the head before it reaches the yellow and black danger line at the bottom. Powers you collect in a level carry over to the next one, and the bullet power, fire rate and starting barrel upgrades you buy with gold are permanent. After 30 tuned levels, an endless MASTER mode begins. It is free and needs no download.
How to play
- Drag the cannon left and right with your finger or the mouse; it fires on its own nonstop.
- Bring the numbers on the stone blocks down to zero to break them; the shorter the chain, the slower the serpent.
- Shoot blue (+fire rate), yellow (+barrel) and red (+power) blocks to power up; powers carry over to the next level.
- Smash the serpent head before it reaches the danger line at the bottom; dodge falling boulders in boss levels.
- Use the UPGRADE button to spend gold on permanent bullet power, fire rate and starting barrels.
Controls
Touch and mouse: drag left and right anywhere on the screen to move the cannon (your finger never covers it); tap the UPGRADE button in the top-left corner to open the upgrade panel. Keyboard: left/right arrow keys or A/D to move the cannon, U to open the UPGRADE panel and 1-3 to buy in the panel. The cannon fires automatically. P: pause.
FAQ
What do the colored blocks do?
Breaking a blue block raises your fire rate, a yellow block adds another barrel to your cannon (up to five barrels, after that it turns into power) and a red block makes your bullets stronger. These powers do not vanish when the level ends; they carry over to the next one. Steel blocks deflect most bullets and purple crystal blocks split into two small blocks when they break.
When does a level end and when do I lose?
When the serpent head's health reaches zero, the head shatters, the remaining blocks pop one after another spilling gold, and the game rolls straight into the next level. If the head reaches the yellow and black danger line at the bottom, you lose. The higher up you smash the head, the more stars and gold you earn.
Do I lose my progress if I fail?
Your level and collected powers are saved on your device, so you continue from the same level even after a refresh. If the serpent breaks through, you can watch an optional ad to push it back and continue right where you were with all your power, or start over. Gold, permanent upgrades and unlocked cannon styles always stay.
